Influenced by the intersection of the Paris of the imagination and the Paris of the everyday, I set out to capture the ways in which the mythical city is perpetuated through the act of seeing and being seen. Whether it is tourists or locals, the streets of Paris become a space of performance and observation, of consumption and confrontation. Reproduced as postcards mounted in shadow boxes, this series of images is an attempt to both expand and collapse the Paris of the mind by conflating ordinary scenes of city life with the romanticized scenes portrayed in films and art that feature the city.
Looking: Postcards from Paris was an exhibition on display at L’espace-galerie du Cinéma du Parc from February 1st to February 29th, 2024.
